Linden bush

Tilleul à petites feuilles - الزيزفون

Description

Tilia cordata

This bush is found throughout the northern hemisphere. Its heart-shaped leaves are known for their calming properties, while its small yellow-green flowers attract bees. In periods of severe drought, the lime tree is capable of shedding its leaves to save energy.

Linden has many uses most notably making musical instruments. Its decomposing wood is also used in parts of Asia to plant shiitake mushrooms.

Poem

A Leaf’s Lesson

The grace with which, at the end of autumn,
The green leaf survives at the top of an elm,
Speckled with golds and reds
As if to bid a more tender farewell;

The grace with which it shrivels up
And lingers to form a trembling jewel,
Before detaching itself to hover in the air
Gently gliding to the edge of its grave

This grace where the agonizing sap,
Revives itself… this infinite grace
That insists to perish serenely.

This heroic leaf so airy and light,
By the simple lesson that its virtue suggests,
Teaches us to age and die… gracefully!
